Shake Your Booty
Shake Number 1Every morning I make a protein shake for breakfast and Marissa asked me to post it here on the blog.
It's yummy. It keeps me satisfied until lunch. It has 26 grams of protein (hence the high satisfaction index) and is only 4.5 or 5 points, depending on how much fruit you add.
I used to be against drinking my calories. I mean food calories, not wine. I insisted I needed to chew my meals to feel satisfied. But when a nutritionist said I am probably getting migraines because I let my blood sugar go so low, especially in the morning when I tended not to eat breakfast until 10 am, I decided to forgo the cheese-stick-based breakfast for something a little more protein rich.
Here's what's in it:
- 2 scoops of Bio Pure protein powder (80 cals, 1.5 grams of fat, 0 fiber = 2 points)
- 2 Tbs of flaxseed powder (I got mine at Whole Paycheck for $7.99. Christina found a comparable version at Trader Jose's for $2.99.) (80 cals, 6 grams of fat, 5 grams fiber = 1 point)
- 1/2 cup 1% milk (1% has more protein than skim, isn't blue and they both have the same point value of 1)
- 1/2 cup water (0 points)
- 1/2 small ripe banana (cut in pieces, frozen = .5 points)
- 1/2 cup strawberries, blueberries or any other kind of berry, frozen or not (0 points)
- Couple of ice cubes (0 points)
Total points: 4.5 or 5 if you go heavy on the berries
I mix it up in this handy blender. Less to wash, as the blender is the mug. And it has a travel top to boot. For a mere $19.99 at Macy's -- it's a deal. (And for those us who might work at Macy's -- such a bargain!)
So there you have it. If you want to by the protein, Amazon has it. But it's not available on Prime, unfortunately.
Shake Number 2
Christina recommended that we all have the chocolate Weight Watchers shake -- made with extra of peanut butter, of course.
Last night opted for a less point-laden way to make it and it turned out to be a great 2 point treat. With ~20 grams of protein! I think it was more satisfying than my fat free/sugar free Fudgecicle obsession for the same point value.
- 1 packet of WW chocolate shake mix
- 1/2 cup of 1% milk
- 1/2 cup bubbly water
- Couple of ice cubes
Mix it up in a blender and enjoy.
