Come On Now

Marissa just sent me an email about an article she found on the Weight Watchers site:

Are you KIDDING me with this???

Easy Does It

"Ease into your walking program. Build your fitness base by walking at a comfortable pace for short durations, perhaps five- to ten-minute sessions. Even if you think you can do more, resist the temptation: Doing too much too soon can cause undue fatigue and muscle soreness. And be sure to wear a comfortable pair of walking shoes."

Yeah, come on, Stacy, let's go for a 5 minute walk.

I'm beginning to have a few questions about the whole Weight Watchers premise. Oh, I get it overall. I get that they are the most successful diet in the country and have 40 years of experience, blah, blah, blah. I'm not finding excuses just to give in. I'm in it for the 10 weeks of the Competition and then some if necessary.

But sometimes I think that neither I nor my fellow Weightloss-apaloozas are exactly their target audience. 5 to 10 minutes walks? As a fitness routine? Come on Weight Watchers -- get a clue. There are many people on your plan who work out regularly (ooh, they even break a sweat! Imagine that!) and still need to lose weight. Please don't ignore us and pander only to the midwest fat asses who don't own a pair of decent sneakers and have no clue what "target heart rate" means.

Rant officially over.

I walk far more than 5 to 10 minutes in Manolo Blahniks, which hardly can be called "comfortable walking shoes" and I'm doing just fine, thankyouverymuch. In fact, I might take that $900 and buy a couple more pairs!!
